The closing event of the World Roller Games 2017 in the Speed discipline is the Marathon for Junior/Senior Ladies and Junior/Senior Men. The circuit was developed along a 10km lap, with very long flat straight and two U turns.
8:00 am 132 Ladies started for the 42km race. Easy pace, until the last 5 km where the pace got faster. Again, Colombia dominated the race with the win of Jhoana Viveros and the 2nd place of Luz Karime Garzon. 3rd place for Sandrine Tas, a real fighter from Belgium. To mention the first Junior skater to cross the line was Giorgia Bormida, Italy.
10:00 am was the turn of the Men category with 177 skaters to the line. A race totally different from the women’s one, where from the very beginning a breakaway try to escape with Diogo Morreiros, Fe-lix Rijhnen, Daniel Niero between others. Really high rhythm from the group who catch them. But Patxi Peula with Manuel Saavedra from Colombia and a representative from Chinese Taipei, tried hard again to finish the three on a breakaway. In the end the peloton catch them and with an amazing sprint Nolan Beddiaf from France crossed the line first. 2nd place for Colombia Andrea Jimenez and third place for the Spanish hero Patxi Peula. First skater from the Junior category Indra Medard, Belgium.
The World Championships of Speed Skating came to the end. Wonderful races, actions and emotions have crowned the first World Roller Games of the history. Thanks to all the volunteers, judges, ath-letes, coaches, delegates, organizers and all the people who came to help and watch the speed’s races. See you in Barcelona for the next World Roller Games 2019!
