The Intercontinental Cup ended at the Aldo Cantoni Stadium in San Juan - Argentina, home of the 16th edition of the tournament that brings together the champions and the runners-up of Europe and South America.

The women division was incorporated in this edition, making it their first participation ever in an Intercontinental championship. Concepción PC of Argentina, the Panamerican champion, and Telecable Gijón HC of Spain, the European champion, reached the FINALS. The championship glory went to Concepción PC, who defeated Telecable 4 - 2.

The men’s finals gathered up the European teams. The European champion, Barça Lassa, reached the final after defeating Concepción PC of Argentina 7 - 2, while the European runnerup, FC Porto, defeated Club Leonardo Murialdo of Argentina 5 – 3 in the semifinals. In an electrifying final, Barça Lassa was crowned Intercontinental Champion in an Aldo Cantoni filled with 7200 souls. The match ended up tied 4 - 4 but Pablo Alvarez, the sanjuaninian star, put Barça in the lead just 1:31 min before the end of the second overtime period, giving his team the victory 5 - 4.
