Alpine: Worlds GS and Team & World Cup Final in Villablino

From the 12th to 14th of August was the last big international inline alpine event of the season 2016 in Villablino (ESP). The World Championships in giant slalom and team and the finals of the worldcup took place under perfect conditions. The organizing club Deportivo Leitariegos did a great job; the club members have organized an amazing event. On Friday (12th of August), the World Championships in giant slalom took place. In the women’s category Mona Sing (GER) became World Champion 2016, followed by Manuela Schmohl (GER) and Elea Börsig (GER) on the 3rd place. The first place in the men’s category received Sven Ortel (GER). Kristaps Zvejnieks (LAT) and Marco Walz
(GER) followed him on place 2 and 3. On Saturday (13th of August) morning, the team championships took place. The german team (Claudia Wittmann, Manuela Schmohl, Sven Ortel and Marco Walz) won the race. The Latvian team (Ieva Meldere, Marta Gara, Miks Zvejnieks and Kristaps Zvejnieks) were rabked on the 2nd place followed by the czech team (Barbora Prochazkova, Gabriela Kudelaskova, Adam Alexandr and Jan Möller). In the afternoon, the World Cup Final took place. In the women´s category Claudia Wittmann (GER) won the race, 2nd became Manuela Schmohl (GER) and 3rd Mona Sing (GER). In the men´s category Kristaps Zvejnieks (LAT) reached the first place, 2nd became Marco Walz (GER) and 3rd Massimiliano Losio (ITA). In the World Cup, overall ranking the ranking was as follows: Claudia Wittmann (GER) 1 st place, Manuela Schmohl (GER) 2nd place and Jana Börsig (GER) 3rd place. In the men´s category, Marco Walz (GER) reached the first place, followed by Massimiliano Losio (ITA) and Kristaps Zvejnieks (LAT). During the whole weekend it has been possible to follow the race via livestream on FIRS Webtv.
